Text on poster:

The cotton textile industry, launched in Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 1790, provided hundreds of thousands of immigrants with their first American jobs. Their unions, in turn, provided the first democratic experience for many immigrant workers, who voted and participated in union activities even before they became American citizens. Fasanella's "Working the Night Shift" honors the men and women who work day and night in mills and factories. Today, the descendents of immigrants who toiled in the mills are leaders of our major educational, social, business and political institutions.
